Ronan McEnroe bided his time for three seasons. He redshirted, then saw action in only three matches as a freshman, and as a sophomore, came off the bench in all 18 matches last season.
His time has come in 2018.
McEnroe, our Wildcat of the Week, scored for the second time this season and helped key the Chico State men's soccer team's third shutout of the season in Saturday's 2-0 win against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The junior defensive holding midfielder from Bakersfield (Liberty High School) has started all six of Chico State's matches this season. He has helped fuel a defense that's allowed only four goals in those six games, while also picking out and taking advantage of his opportunities on the offensive end.
McEnroe scored his second goal of the season Saturday, doubling Chico State's lead to 2-0. While Fabian Roman and DiAngelo Gleaves were connecting on a short corner, McEnroe was working into open space on the top-near corner of the six-yard box. Roman's cross sailed right to him, and McEnroe flicked it inside the far post with a header.
He also helped key a dominant defensive effort. The Wildcats did not allow Cal State Dominguez Hills to take a single shot on goal.
McEnroe and the Wildcats will now hit the road for four straight before returning to University Soccer Stadium for a non-conference affair with UC Santa Cruz on Oct. 7.
