The Chico State softball team has several players who can step up and produce, but when the Wildcats are in need of a crucial run or a big defensive stop, Ari Marsh is the one who always delivers. Fresh off an impressive showing at the Desert Stinger Classic, the junior outfielder was at it again in the 'Cats' conference-opening series against Cal State San Bernardino, coming up with clutch hits and diving catches to help lead Chico State to a four-game sweep of the Coyotes. Her prolific play makes Marsh the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
In the four games against San Bernardino, Marsh batted .533 (8-for-15) with a home run, three runs scored, and five runs batted in, while posting an .800 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. Marsh's efforts helped move the No. 21 Wildcats to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Â
In game two of Friday's series-opening twin bill, Marsh went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a 4-3 Chico State victory. Saturday Marsh was a combined 5-for-8 with a double and two more RBI, and in the nightcap, made several diving catches in right field to preserve pitcher Naomi Monahan's first career no-hitter as the Wildcats cruised to an 8-0 victory.
Â
Marsh is batting .467 on the season and is tied for the CCAA lead in hits (14) and runs batted in (12).
Â
Marsh and the Wildcats are at University Softball Field for their home-opening series this Friday and Saturday. The 'Cats take on Cal State San Marcos in a four-game set.
