An array of injuries has limited Jo Paine's minutes early in the 2017–18 season, but the senior forward is slowly but surely building up her time on the court—and that is certainly good news for the Chico State women's basketball team. In her most recent outing, the Oregon City, Oregon product put together her healthiest stat line yet against Cal State East Bay, and her season-high 12-point performance makes Paine the latest Wildcat of the Week.
In just 15 minutes of action versus the Pioneers, Paine knocked down three of her seven field goal attempts, and was even deadlier from 3-point land, connecting on two of three shots from beyond the arc. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and also grabbed four rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep the Wildcats from falling to East Bay 79-69 in Hayward.
Though she's missed four of the Wildcats' first nine games and has seen just 48 minutes of action thus far, Paine has posted back-to-back double-digit scoring nights (she contributed 10 in Chico State's December 9 win over San Francisco State) and is averaging 6.8 points a contest. Even more impressive: her pro-rated scoring average per 40 minutes is a whopping 28.3 points.
Paine and the Chico State women's basketball team hosts Simpson Tuesday at Acker Gym in a non-conference game, then takes on California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals Cal State LA December 29 and Cal State Dominguez Hills on New Year's Eve.
