Several factors go into the making of a successful basketball team. It obviously has to have players who can be counted on to consistently score, rebound and defend. Madison Wong provides the Chico State women's basketball team with all three skills, and her 15 assists during the 'Cats' weekend road trip in Southern California were particularly important in sparking the offense's production.Â
Â
Wong's ability to distribute the ball and feature prominently in the Chico State attack makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
In addition to her 15 assists, Wong scored a combined 14 points in games against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.Â
Â
The Elk Grove product also collected five rebounds, buried a pair of 3-pointers and was 4-for-6 from the free throw line.
Â
Friday against Cal Poly Pomona, Wong scored five points and dished out seven assists, then followed up Sunday with a career-high eight assists to go along with nine points versus Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
Wong is currently averaging 6.7 points a game and ranks second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with 5.9 assists a contest.
Â
Wong and the Wildcats return to Acker Gym Saturday to host CCAA rival San Francisco State.Â
