Chico State junior forward Erin Woods is taking nicely to her transition to the offensive end of the Wildcats' formation. Woods, who spent her first two seasons in the program as a defender/midfielder, tallied two goals and two assists in the Wildcats' first two matches of the season—also her first two as a starting attacker—to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
The Harbor High School (Santa Cruz) product assisted on the first goal of the match and scored the Wildcats' second goal in a season-opening 3–2 loss at Seattle Pacific Thursday. She played a throw-in back to Korie Bozart for the helper on the opening goal. Later, Woods converting a header that she flicked on inside the far post from the top of the six-yard box.
In Saturday's 2–0 win at Concordia-Portland, Woods played a nice ball to put teammate Lauren Madero in behind the defense. She then barreled down the middle of the pitch toward the mouth of the goal. Madero smartly picked her out and sent a well-timed and executed cross to Woods, who hit the target from close range.
Less than three minutes later, Woods escaped traffic in the middle of the pitch to deliver a pass that put Kilgore through the defense and into the box for the second goal.
Even as a defender and midfielder, Woods is an offensive threat. She entered the season with career totals of three goals and three assists.
Woods and the Wildcats play their home opener Thursday at 7 p.m. versus Azusa Pacific.
