The Wildcats’ lone senior, Gillian Heydorff, was a workhorse last weekend, leading No. 25 Chico State to conference wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State and vaulting the ‘Cats into sole possession of fourth place in the CCAA standings. Heydorff amassed 40 kills and 48 digs in Chico State’s nine weekend sets, while adding four assists, two service aces, two solo blocks and two block assists. For her efforts, Heydorff has been named Wildcat of the Week.
Friday against Cal State Monterey Bay, Heydorff posted 24 kills, 32 kills and a solo block as the Wildcats came back from a two-sets-to-one deficit to defeat the Otters in five. In Saturday’s crucial matchup against San Francisco State (tied with Chico State for fourth in the conference), Heydorff did a little bit of everything, collecting 16 kills, 16 digs, two service aces, a solo block and two block assists as the Wildcats downed the Gators in four sets.
The Sierra Madre native is ranked in the top 15 nationally in kills (averaging 4.01 per set) and is just 49 digs short of becoming only the second Chico State player (and first non-libero) in school history to rack up 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
