Only twice since 2007 has a member of the Chico State women’s golf team ended a tournament sitting atop the individual leaderboard. Bianca Armanini has been the first place finisher on both occasions: last April, the senior won the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, and this year Armanini paced the field at the InterWest Wildcat Invitational. Armanini’s victorious performance at Butte Creek Country Club has led to another win: the honor of being Wildcat of the Week.
Armanini carded a 78 in Monday’s opening round, and went into the tournament’s final 18 holes owning a share of ninth place in the 38-player field. She came alive midway through the second round, posting four birdies in a five-hole stretch and playing 4-under par over the final 11 holes to finish the day at 1-over 73. Armanini’s winning 36-hole score of 7-over par 151 was one stroke better than runner-up and Wildcat teammate Abbey McGrew.
In seven tournaments this season, Armanini has notched two top 10 tournament finishes and has been among the top 20 golfers in six events. Over her Chico State career, Armanini has seven top 10 and 18 top 20 finishes.
Armanaini and the Chico State women’s golf team travels to Monterey this Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Club in Seaside.
