Chico State junior third baseman Cameron Santos came through in the clutch time and time again for the Wildcats during their four-game sweep of San Francisco State at Nettleton Stadium over the weekend, earning Wildcat of the Week honors.
The California High School (San Ramon) product went 8-for-13 with a double, five RBI, three runs scored, and stole three bases. But what Santos accomplished with a chance to do some damage was even more impressive. He went 5-for-5 with five RBI with runners in scoring position, including 3-for-3 with three RBI with two out.
Santos also played error-free defense at third base for the Wildcats, who lead the nation in fielding percentage.
Santos went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base in Chico State's series-opening 6–5 win. He drew two walks in four plate appearances in the Wildcats' walkoff 4–3 win in game two. Santos went 3-for-4 with a run, two RBI-singles, and a stolen base in game three. And he finished the series with a 3-for-3 effort Sunday, scoring a run, stealing a base, and driving in a pair.
Santos is third in team history with 37 stolen bags, and tied for third with 20 sac bunts.
He ranks among the top 100 players in the nation in RBI (75th with 19), sacrifice bunts (16th with four), stolen bases (15th with 11) and toughest to strikeout (80th at once every 19.3 at-bats).
