After delivering a solid season as a true freshman, Chico State softball player Claire Wayne was being counted on to be a big contributor to the Wildcats' 2017 offensive attack. Thirteen games into the season, the Norco product has lived up to expectations and then some, providing plenty of muscle to the middle of the 'Cats' lineup. Wayne put up some huge numbers in Chico State's series sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills, making her the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Wayne hit safely in all four games against the Toros to bat an even .500 (7-for-14) in the series. She also scored seven runs, collected three runs batted in, posted a .533 on-base percentage, and thanks to two doubles and two home runs, produced a 1.071 slugging percentage to help the No. 9 Wildcats improve to 12-1 on the season.

In Friday's series opener, Wayne doubled and scored twice in an 8-0 Chico State victory, then in game two went 2-for-4 as the Wildcats downed the Toros 8-3. Saturday Wayne hit her first homer of the weekend to highlight a 2-for-4 performance in a 7-1 Chico State victory, then homered and doubled in the nightcap to help the Wildcats complete the series sweep 16-6.

Wayne is batting a robust .351 on the season, leads the Wildcats with three home runs and eight walks is third on the team in runs scored (12).

Wayne and the Wildcats return to University Softball Field this weekend to host a four-game series with Stanislaus State, with doubleheader action Friday and Saturday.
