Cam Greenough flirted with an alternate spelling for his last name in Monday's series finale against Simpson University: Greenough-no.

The transfer from San Mateo Community College struck out a dozen hitters in five innings, allowing only an infield single leading off the fifth inning, to lead the Wildcats to an 11–0 victory and earn himself Wildcat of the Week honors.

After a leadoff walk to start the game, Greenough retired 12 straight, including nine via strikeout. He struck out five in a row at one point.

Following the the hit leading off the fifth, Greenough responded by striking out the final three batters he faced. In striking out 12, Greenough becomes just the third Wildcat to do so since 2007, and second in two days. Hunter Haworth–the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Pitcher of the Week–struck out 13 in six innings in Sunday's home opener.

The Chico State pitching staff struck out 46 hitters in the four-game series–43 swinging–and has now sent 71 batters back to the dugout in frustration in 62 and two-thirds innings.

Greenough improved to 2-0 in his first two starts with the Wildcats, and lowered his ERA to 1.80. His next start could come this weekend at the Houston Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. The Wildcats are scheduled to play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
