Chico State guard Corey Silverstrom scored 25 points–the most by a Wildcat this season–in an 80–67 victory at Cal State San Bernardino Friday night, to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
The junior from Fresno (Bullard High School) shot 9-of-15 from the field and hit all six of his free throw attempts. He added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Wildcats won their seventh straight to improve to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Silverstrom made his first six shots and scored 15 points in the first half to lead Chico State to an early advantage. His 3-pointer with 3:48 to go before intermission stretched the lead to 12. However, the lead was down to 55–52 before Silverstrom took over down the stretch to salt the game away. He scored 10 points in the final 7:21 as the Wildcats outscored Cal State San Bernardino 25-15 in the closing minutes.
Silverstrom has now scored 20 or more in three of the Wildcats' last five games and leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game. During conference play, Silverstrom ranks sixth in the CCAA in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He also ranks fourth in field-goal percentage (50 percent).
The 3-pointer Silverstrom sank in the first half was the 105th of his career, leaving him just 31 shy of catching Justin Argenal for 10th on the school's career list.
Silverstrom and the Wildcats host Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend.
