The Chico State women's basketball team can always rely on Natalie Valenzuela to contribute in a significant way every time she takes the court. A big offensive night, clutch rebounding, stuffing opponent's shot attempts—many times they all occur in the same game. The Santa Clarita product turned in another productive outing against Cal State San Bernardino Saturday night, and her all-around efforts at Coussoulis Arena makes Valenzuela the choice for Wildcat of the Week.
Valenzuela scored a team-high 10 points, pulled down three rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked three shots in the Wildcats' 63–58 loss to the Coyotes. The junior forward was nearly unstoppable in the pivotal third quarter, scoring nine points on 4–of–5 shooting while adding a block, an assist and a steal to keep the 'Cats' comeback hopes alive.
With her three blocked shots, Valenzuela now has 26 on the season. She leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in both blocks and blocks per game (2.0).
Valenzuela has racked up 78 blocks in just 61 career games and ranks seventh on Chico State's all-time blocked shots list.
Valenzuela and the Wildcats continue conference play when they host Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills this Friday and Saturday at Acker Gym.
