Chico State senior Katie Brown wrapped up her collegiate career with a memorable weekend. Brown scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, and added an assist, as the Wildcats played to a 1-1 draw against 20th-ranked Sonoma State Friday before beating Humboldt State 5-1 Sunday.
Â
Brown, an exceptional student and Academic All-America nominee for the second season in a row, finished her playing career brilliantly. She's also our Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Brown tied the match against Sonoma State with her first career goal, winning a footrace with the goalkeeper for a loose ball before depositing it into the empty net in the 22nd minute.
Â
She struck again on Senior Day. After she and four other senior teammates were honored, she gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead less than eight minutes into the match by directing a cross home inside the right post. Brown delivered an assist less than three minutes later, finding Lindsey Dias near the PK spot for a header.
Â
The Wildcats big early lead allowed Brown and the rest of her senior teammates (who accounted for four goals, three assists, and the win in goal) to really soak in their final few minutes on the University Soccer Stadium pitch.
