Six of Golfstat's top 10 NCAA Division II men's golfers, and 14 of the top 29, participated in last week's loaded NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional Preview at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Chico State's Alistair Docherty – our Wildcat of the Week – was the only one to shoot par or better in all three rounds. His final round 1-under par 71 was the lone sub-par round in the 95-man field Tuesday.
Docherty finished tied for second, a shot behind teammate Lee Gearhart, as the Wildcats made a mad dash for the tournament title before falling just two shots short. He entered the event as the eighth-ranked golfer in Division II.
Docherty delivered consecutive even-par rounds of 72 Monday. Tuesday, he birdied holes nine and 10 to get to 1-under par and made his fourth birdie of the day on 17. Only four players shot par Tuesday and he was the only one to finish under par.
Docherty played the par 3s and par 5s as well as anyone in the field. He tied for the tournament lead by shooting 1-under on the par 3s and led the tournament at 7-under on the par 5s.
Docherty and the Wildcats will be back in action next week at the Notre Dame de Namur Argonaut Invitational at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.
