With the arc Erin Woods’ collegiate soccer career is taking, Shakira just might want to meet the Chico State defender. Woods, who named the pop star the person who she would most like to meet on her preseason athlete questionnaire, has been a rock star during her first full season with the Wildcats.
Woods is the Chico State Athletics Wildcat of the Week following a weekend in which she scored her first collegiate goal against Cal Poly Pomona and helped the Wildcats shut out Cal State San Bernardino while leaping from seventh to second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
A redshirt freshman after missing last season with an injury, Woods has started all 14 matches for the Wildcats and ranks second on the squad in minutes played. She’s been an anchor on the back line, helping Chico State post seven clean sheets in the first 14 matches.
Woods headed home a Pooja Patel pass in the 19th minute of last Friday’s 3-2 win at Cal Poly Pomona. She and her teammates on the back line helped limit Cal State San Bernardino to just six shots on goal in Chico State’s 3-0 win Sunday.
Woods also has two assists this season, tied for the team lead among defenders.
She and the Wildcats will play their final four regular season matches at home beginning Friday night against UC San Diego.
