Athletes are frequently described as being able to "do it all," but many times prove to be one-dimensional on the field of play. Chico State volleyball standout Torey Thompson has proven over the last two-and-a-half years that she can contribute to her team's success in a variety of ways, and the junior setter did just that in last week's matches vs. Stanislaus State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay. Her multi-pronged prowess on the court has earned Thompson Wildcat of the Week honors.
All told, Thompson racked up 133 assists, averaging 11.08 assists per set, while also contributing 14 kills, 37 digs (averaging 3.08 digs per set) and a pair of blocks to the Wildcats' attack.
Thompson began the week with a 28-assist, 10-dig effort against Stanislaus, then followed it up by posting a triple-double (55 assists, 14 digs and a career-high 10 kills) Friday against Cal Poly Pomona. Thompson wrapped up her productive week with three kills, 50 assists, 13 digs and a solo block in the Wildcats' four-set victory Saturday against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Thompson also joined an exclusive club in the Chico State volleyball record books over the weekend, becoming just the fourth setter in Wildcat history to collect 3,000 career assists.
Thompson and the Wildcats hit the road for a single match this week, traveling to Southern California to take on Cal State San Marcos.
