Lauren Schnelli’s first season as a member of the Chico State women’s track & field team is shaping up to be something truly special. The junior transfer from Butte College has scored solidly in the high jump in each of her three 2015 meets, bettering her height each time. Schnelli continued her steady climb last Saturday, topping her week-old personal best, scoring an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark and moving higher up the Chico State all-time high jump Top 10 list at the American River Invitational in Sacramento. Her latest vertical effort makes Schnelli the latest Wildcat of the Week.
 
Schenlli took top honors in the high jump with a leap of 1.68 meters (5-feet-06) to post the NCAA Provisional mark and better her career-best height of 5-feet-05.75, set Mar. 21 at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco.
 
Saturday’s mark also helped Schnelli climb one notch on Chico State’s Top 10 high jump list. The Oroville native is now tied with Tonya Miles (1990) for fifth place all-time in the event.
 
Schnelli will be among the Wildcat competitors as the Chico State women’s track & field team takes part in three Northern California meets this week, including the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
