Robert Duncan, a one-time sub, has blossomed into a superstar. If the sophomore guard's spectacular regular season and First Team All-Conference honors weren't proof enough, his first two collegiate postseason performances did the trick.
Duncan, our Wildcat of the Week, averaged 21.5 points on 57-percent shooting, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists per game in last weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Duncan matched his career high with 23 points in the Wildcats' 72-60 win against Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, adding three assists and a steal.
The Granite Bay product produced 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and an assist in the Wildcats 62-57 loss to Cal Poly Pomona in the tournament title game.
Duncan is now averaging 14 points and 2.3 assists per game – both team highs – and ranks second on the team in steals and rebounds.
He'll lead the Wildcats into their fourth straight NCAA Championship Tournament at this weekend's West Regional, hosted by Azusa Pacific. The Wildcats will open play Friday at noon against California Baptist in a rematch of last season's first round.
But the Lancers won't be familiar with Duncan. He was on the bench for all 40 minutes of last year's meeting. He certainly won't be this time around.
