Corey Silverstrom was golden during the decisive moments of the Chico State men's basketball team's 59-47 win Saturday night at Cal State Stanislaus. Our Wildcat of the Week scored seven points and had an assist and steal in the midst of Chico State's 16-2 run late in the second-half that turned a one-point deficit into a 13-point lead.
The redshirt freshman from Fresno's Bullard High School has thrived during his first collegiate campaign, averaging 7.8 points per game as one of the Wildcats' key reserves.
Saturday night he matched his career high with 12 points while also contributing two steals, two assists and a rebound in a season-high 26 minutes off the bench. Silverstrom made 5-of-8 shots, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. He's shooting 52 percent (13-for-25) from three-point range this season, second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association among players with at least three attempts per game. He ranks eighth in the conference in made 3-pointers.
Silverstrom, the Fresno Bee Co-Player of the Year and a Cal-Hi Sports Division I First Team All-State selection as a senior, ranks second in scoring among all CCAA freshmen.
The Wildcats will be back in action Saturday night hosting Cal State Stanislaus at Acker Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
