Mitch Cox called it the perfect Christmas gift. But it didn’t come without 12 years of hard work. He was promoted to Chico State’s Associate Director of Athletics one week before Christmas. And deservedly so. He’s this week’s Wildcat of the Week.
Cox has worked at Chico State since 2002 when he was hired as assistant athletic director. He’s been a driving force behind the Wildcats’ ascent into the upper echelon of the NCAA’s Division II athletic departments.
He participates in the supervision of all athletic department staff and the development and implementation of policy. Cox also serves in the Director capacity when Director of Athletics Anita Barker is unavailable.
Cox is the primary administrator for all home events and, when not at a game, focuses on internal operations. He oversees and manages the season ticket program, scheduling and facilities management and media contracts and agreements.
Cox was behind the new Athletic department logo and marks, and is the primary administrator of the Athletics Licensing program. Additionally, Cox advises the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which performs countless hours of community service and has raised thousands of dollars to assist local and national charities such as the American Red Cross and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
