This season’s Chico State women’s basketball team has seen several players step up to provide big performances en route to a 10-0 start and a No. 14 national ranking, but night in and night out, there’s one particular Wildcat who always seems to be a key part of the squad’s success. Junior guard Courtney Hamilton once again displayed her all-around skills and filled up the stat sheets over the weekend to lead the ’Cats to victories over conference rivals Sonoma State and San Francisco State. For her efforts, Hamilton is the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Hamilton – already a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week from earlier this season – put up sizeable numbers in just about every statistical category over the weekend. The native of Walnut Creek scored a combined 18 points, dished out 15 assists, grabbed 14 rebounds, notched eight steals and blocked two shots as the Wildcats posted double-digit victories over both the Seawolves and Gators.

Friday against Sonoma State, Hamilton matched her career high of eight assists while scoring six points, pulling down three rebounds and grabbing four steals in the Wildcats’ 70-48 win over the Seawolves. She was even better Saturday versus San Francisco State, posting her first career double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in addition to seven assists, four steals and two blocks as the ’Cats downed the Gators 76-60.

Hamilton currently leads the CCAA in assists (averaging 5.8 a game) and is ranked among the top 20 nationwide. She is just two dishes shy of moving past former Wildcat great Joddie (Vossler) Gleason into seventh place on Chico State’s career assists list.

The Wildcats travel to southern California this weekend for key conference matchups against UC San Diego on Friday and Cal State San Bernardino Saturday.
