Alex Bush has provided the Chico State women’s golf team with some fine efforts over the years, notching nine top 30 tournament finishes, with three in the top 10. The senior from Coto de Caza is performing better than ever as the 2012-13 season unfolds, and last Tuesday her career-best round of 73 to close out the Viking Invitational not only netted Bush a top 15 finish, but helped the Wildcats finish fifth in the competitive 13-team field. Her outstanding play on the links has resulted in Bush being named Wildcat of the Week.
Bush, who finished strong three weeks ago in the season-opening Grand Canyon Invitational, shot a solid 8-over par 81 in the opening round of the Viking Invitational, but saved her best golf for the final 18. Bush’s even-par 73 on the Bellingham Golf and Country Club course was the top round by a Chico State women’s golfer this so far season and the third-best of any golfer in the Viking Invitational’s 67-player field.
Bush’s 36-hole total of 8-over par 154 catapulted her into a tie for 13th place on the individual leaderboard and led the Wildcats to their seventh top five team finish in the last eight tournaments dating back to last season.
Bush and the Chico State women’s golf team travels to Texas this week to compete in the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Classic.
