Kenny Rosecrance has studied Chico State soccer as much as anyone over the past few years. The freshman has taken in many matches first as a prep at neighboring Chico High School and then last season as a redshirting freshman. This weekend, Rosecrance got a chance to show off all he's learned. Turns out he's learned a lot, at least enough to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Rosecrance, who had not registered a single minute of collegiate action prior to Friday night, started and played every minute at left back in both of Chico State's matches over the weekend. He played beautifully, helping to anchor a defense that allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of action, and just 15 total shots.
Rosecrance employed his instincts to cut off passes and speed to cut off promising Cal State Monterey Bay runs. He also used his body well, winning a number of balls in the air even when outsized, even got in on some action on the offensive end. His driving ball from just inside the mid-line found Octavio Guzman in the 11th minute. But Tavo’s header sailed inches over the net.
Rosecrance and the Wildcats are back in action Friday when they face rival Sonoma State at 3 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
