Though this is just her first year on the Chico State women’s track & field team, Bridget McClarrinon is a familiar name to area track fans. An outstanding performer at Butte College who took top honors last year at the Golden Valley Conference Championships and competed in the California State JC Championships, the native of Smartsville is continuing to impress as a members of the ’Cats. Last Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational, she notched an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the javelin throw, which also earned McClarrinon Wildcat of the Week honors.
McClarrinon’s toss of 40.60 meters (133-feet-2) was good for a second place finish in the event, and marked the second longest javelin throw among CCAA athletes and the 16th-best in NCAA Division II competition so far this season. She also competed in the Wildcat Invitational’s 400-meter hurdles event, placing ninth with a time of 1:28.21.
McClarrinon has not finished lower than sixth in the javelin in her five meets so far this season. She has thrown at least 36.27 meters (119-feet-10.5) every time out.
The Chico State women’s track & field team is back in action this weekend, traveling to Sacramento to compete in the American River Invitational.
