Outfielder Britt Wright’s 2012 season got off to a slow start, missing the Chico State softball team’s first five games, then after returning to the lineup, going hitless in her first eight at-bats. That rough beginning now seems like eons ago – since then, the senior from Castro Valley is hitting a robust .469 (30-for-64) at the top of the Wildcats’ batting order, and was one of the key run producers last weekend as the No. 9-ranked ’Cats took three of four from Sonoma State to improve to 18-5 on the season. Her contributions to Chico State’s success on the softball diamond have earned Wright Wildcat of the Week recognition.

Wright batted .467 in the Sonoma State series, hitting safely in all four games (to extend her current hitting streak to eight straight) while reaching base eight times and scoring four runs. She also was a factor defensively, making several outstanding catches in right field.

In game one of Friday’s doubleheader against the Seawolves, Wright singled to lead off the ninth and came around to score the only run of the contest as the Wildcats nipped Sonoma 1-0 in extra innings. She went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the nightcap in Chico State’s 7-4 victory to sweep the twinbill.

In’s the first game of Saturday’s twinbill, Wright reached base twice and scored once in Sonoma State’s 6-2 win, then came back to go 3-for-4 with a triple and run scored as the Wildcats posted a 6-1 victory to split the doubleheader and take the series with the Seawolves three games to one.

Wright is currently second on the Wildcats (and sixth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) with a .417 average on the season, is second on the team in hits and stolen bases, and third in runs scored.

Chico State travels to the Bay Area this weekend, taking on San Francisco State in a four-game series, with doubleheader action Friday and Saturday.
