Kevin Rei matched his best collegiate finish – 4th place – at the Coyote Classic last week in San Bernardino to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. Rei, a senior from Sonora, shot even par in his first and final rounds and finished 3-over par and in a three-way tie for fourth along with teammate Chris Doyle in the 92-player field.

Rei and the Wildcats completely dismantled a strong field in which five of the nation’s top-21 ranked teams played. The Wildcats won by 19 strokes, taking the lead in the first round and then running away with the tournament.

Rei and Kyle Souza finished the first round in a group of three that shot even par and stood three shots out of the lead. Rei remained in fourth following a second-round 73 that spanned the end of the day Monday and the early-morning hours of Tuesday. He finished with a flourish – an even-par 70.

Rei also finished tied for fourth at the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout last spring. This marked the 2011 All-West Region selection’s sixth collegiate top-10 result.
