Jackson Evans, Chico State’s senior second baseman from Vancouver, Wash. (Columbia Basin CC), drove in seven runs, scored four and banged out two triples and a double to lead the Wildcats to a season-opening sweep of Simpson University Saturday at Nettleton Stadium. The 2010 Honorable Mention All-American also swiped a base, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch while playing flawlessly in the field to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Evans went 3-for-4 with six RBI and tied a Chico State record with a pair of triples in the opening game. He also doubled, scored three runs and got on base via a hit-by-pitch. In the nightcap, Evans went 0-for-2 but still contributed offensively. He drove in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly and later drew a walk and stole a base before scoring what proved to be the game-winning run.
