As the only senior on the Chico State softball roster, Grace Gallagher works hard to produce on the field while using her experience to benefit and inspire the younger Wildcat players. As the 2023 season unfolds, Gallagher’s countless contributions are already yielding positive results. The ’Cats won their first three home games thanks in large part to her production at the plate, and the impressive numbers she posted at the dish make Gallagher the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Gallagher batted a solid .600 (6-for-10) with two doubles and one RBI as Chico State topped Academy of Art twice and finished off the weekend with a victory over Stanislaus. Gallagher racked up a slugging percentage of .800, hit safely in all three games, and did not strike out, helping the Wildcats improve to 5-3 on the young season.
Â
Gallagher got off to a hot start Friday against Academy of Art, going 3-for-3 and driving in what proved to be the only run of the game with a two-out first inning single as the ’Cats edged the Urban Knights 1-0. In Saturday’s game versus Academy of Art, Gallagher doubled and scored a run in a 10-2 Chico State win, then later in the afternoon her base hit kick-started a five-run sixth inning rally, giving the Wildcats a 7-3 victory over Stanislaus.
Â
Gallagher is hitting .417 through the season’s first eight games, and is currently sixth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) batting race.
Â
Gallagher and the Wildcats open CCAA conference play this Friday and Saturday, hosting Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game series at University Softball Field.
