Competed in one event during the March 6–7 Kim Duyst Invitational prior to the cancellation of the 2020 track & field season…Placed 33rd in the 200m dash (23.81 seconds)…Earned two CCAA All-Academic Awards…Received 2019–20 Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
Pre-Chico Days
Spent two seasons competing at Monterey Peninsula College…Named team MVP his freshman and sophomore year…Was a decathlete for the Lobos in 2018, finishing fifth at the CCCAA Northern California Regional Championships…Competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m dash and 400m hurdles in 2019…A 2017 graduate of Palma High School in Salinas…Competed in 100m, 200m, and 400m dash, 300m hurdles, long jump, as well as 4x100m and 4x400m relay over three varsity seasons…Took top honors in the400m dash at the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division and Masters meets to qualify for the Central Coast Section Championships…Part of the Chieftains’ 2017 MBL Gabilan/Pacific champion 4x100m relay team and 2016 MBL Masters meet champion 4x400m relay team…Also lettered in football, earning All-MBL Gabilan honors.

Born November 1, 1998, in Salinas…Son of Nicole Montalvo-Telford…Has one older sister, Emily…The person he most admires in the sports world is Usain Bolt (“because he knows how to work hard and have fun”)…Favorite course at Chico State is Organic Chemistry for Applied Sciences, taught by Tiffani Anderson…Chose to attend Chico State “because it seemed like a great school and a great place to run track”…His greatest sports moment is the first time he broke 50 seconds in the 400m dash…The most interesting thing he’s ever done is travel to Puerto Rico each summer…The most impressive thing he’s ever accomplished is earning his first 4.0 GPA in college…Has learned by competing in track & field that “your mind will quit a thousand times before your body will”…Enjoys hiking and spending time with friends…Says that outside of track, CrossFit is his biggest talent…He and his sister will be the first ones in his family to earn a college degree…At the top of his bucket list: “I want to be a part of the Peace Corps when I am done with my physician assistant program”…Best advice ever received came from his mom: “The harder you work, the better the results”…Majoring in exercise physiology…Plans to go to a physician assistant program.
