Personal
Born October 30, 2000, in Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexico…Son of Erick and Maria…Has two younger siblings, Keira and Alexa…The person he most admires in the sports world is national champion and Olympic medalist pole vaulter Sam Kendricks (“His attitude and passion for his sports is amazing. He also had great respect for his fellow competitors and he creates a great atmosphere to compete in”)…Favorite course at Chico State is Practical Student Leadership Within A Diverse Educational Community, taught by Felipe Restrepo…Why he chose to attend Chico State: “The OHANA mentality. I love having a team so close that we call each other a family. Once I visited Chico and heard their OHANA motto, I knew this was the place for me”…His greatest sports moment is winning a pole vault competition in his freshman year…The most interesting thing he’s ever done is study abroad in Reggio Emilia, Italy in Fall of 2019…The most impressive thing he’s ever accomplished is take a road trip from Miami to Washington, DC (“I got pulled over for the first time”)…Has learned by competing in track & field that “there are no shortcuts. You can’t rush the vault; trying to will only set you back further. You have to invest time in the little things that don’t seem important”…Enjoys learning new tricks on his skateboard when he has some free time…Says gymnastics is his biggest non-sports talent…Can do handstands on high places…At the top of his bucket list: “Fly a plane”…Best advice ever received came from his dad: “No one will get you out of a dark place but yourself”…Majoring in construction management…Plans to own a construction company with his dad.
