Matthew Rodriguez joined the Chico State track & field coaching staff after completing his collegiate career with the Wildcats and graduating from Chico State in 2025.
Rodriguez works primarily with Chico State’s pole vaulters while also contributing to the Wildcats’ jumps group. In addition to his event-area coaching responsibilities, he helps lead recruiting efforts for the women’s track & field program.
Rodriguez made an immediate impact with the Wildcats’ pole vault group during the 2026 season. On the women’s side, Janey Rubio captured All-CCAA honors with a second-place finish in the pole vault, qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, earned USTFCCCA All-West Region recognition and broke the Chico State school record with a clearance of 4.02 meters. Charlie Ham also earned All-CCAA honors with a third-place finish at the conference championships, claimed All-West Region recognition and moved to No. 7 in program history with a mark of 3.85 meters.
As a student-athlete, Rodriguez competed for Chico State in the pole vault and became one of the Wildcats’ top performers in the event. He earned All-CCAA honors at the 2024 CCAA Track & Field Championships, placing second in the pole vault to help Chico State finish second in the team standings.
A native of Grass Valley and graduate of Bear River High School, Rodriguez brings recent competitive experience, familiarity with the Chico State program and a strong technical background to the Wildcats’ coaching staff.
