2020
Appeared in two events at the March 6–7 Kim Duyst Invitational prior to the cancellation of the 2020 track & field season…Finished 13th in the long jump (6.24m) and placed 29th in the 100m dash (12.08 seconds)…Earned two CCAA All-Academic honors…Received the 2019–20 Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
2019
Competed in seven events during the 2019 season…Posted personal best marks of 11.12 seconds in the 100m dash, 23.80 seconds in the 200m dash, and 6.77m in the long jump April 5–6, 2019 at the Chico State Distance Carnival and Twilight Invitational…Earned 2018–19 CCAA All-Academic honors.
Pre-Chico Days
A 2018 graduate of Placer High School in Auburn…Competed in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash, 4x100m relay, pole vault, high jump, long jump, and triple jump during his prep career…Helped lead the Hillmen to four consecutive Pioneer Valley League titles and a pair of Section championships…School long jump record holder…Took top honors in the long jump at the 2018 PVL Finals and the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Finals…A member of Placer High’s 2016 PVL champion 4x100m relay team…Also lettered in football, contributing to four PVL titles, plus a 2017 Section championship and state runner-up team…Two-time All-PVL selection…Named the league’s Defensive MVP as a senior.
Personal
Born December 3, 1999, in Scottsdale, Arizona…Son of Daniel Rand and Kristina Luoma…Has two younger siblings, Daniel and Ashlyn…Favorite course at Chico State is Analytic Geometry and Calculus, taught by Daniel Vallieres…Why he chose to attend Chico State: “It was close to home and I heard it had a good track program”…His greatest sports moment is playing in the state championship game in high school “with a stiff neck and snapped pinky”…The most interesting thing he’s ever done is compete in Muay Thai…Has learned by competing in track & field that “pain through failure makes you better”…Enjoys hiking, climbing, sleeping, and spending time with friends…Says math is his biggest non-sports talent…Can play the guitar…At the top of his bucket list: “Hike the John Muir Trail”…Best advice ever received he attributes to Solomon in the Bible: “Everything is vanity”…Majoring in mathematics education…Plans to pursue a career as a mathematics teacher.
