Biography

Second year in the Wildcats’ program…Has earned two CCAA All-Academic awards…Received the 2020–21 Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award…Pre-Chico Days: Played two seasons at Pasadena City College…Batted .395 as a freshman to help lead the Lancers to the South Coast Conference North title…Named First Team All-SCC, First Team All-State, Third Team All-American, and PCC’s Male Athlete of the Year…His 76 hits in 2019 were the most of any JC player in the state…Set school single-season record for hits and runs scored (46)…A 2018 graduate of Monrovia High School…Played four varsity seasons…Career .378 hitter…Helped lead the Wildcats to three Rio Hondo League titles and to the finals of the 2018 CIF Southern Section Division IV Championships…Earned three First Team All-RHL honors…As a senior, named RHL Most Valuable Player…Received CIF Division IV and San Gabriel Valley All-Star Game MVP accolades in 2018…Personal: Born April 28, 2000, in Duarte…Son of Gabriel Sr. and Lupe…Has three younger sisters: Sofia, Samantha, and Sandra…His parents are his heroes “because of how hard they worked their entire life raising my siblings and I. They give me the motivation to be as good as a parent to my future children as they are to me”…The person he most admires in the sports world is Derek Jeter (“because of his leadership that he held on and off the field! He paved the way for all the players throughout the MLB”)…Chose to attend Chico State “because of the amazing history that its baseball program holds, and because of the amazing atmosphere that the city holds as well as the people who live within it”…His greatest sports moment is playing summer collegiate ball with the Portland Pickles “and being able to experience different states that I had never been to”…The most interesting thing he’s ever done is back into a parking spot with his eyes closed…The most impressive thing he’s ever accomplished is playing college baseball…Has learned by playing baseball that “no matter how hard a goal is to reach, if you have motivation to reach that goal, then you will get there eventually”…Enjoys spending time with his family…His biggest talent outside of baseball is being the center of attention “and having the bravery to meet new people and get along with them”…At the top of his bucket list: “Jump off a cliff into the ocean”…Best advice ever received: “Always keep your head on your shoulders! Don’t allow the moment get too big because that’s when things start to go south. Stay poised and under control”…Majoring in kinesiology…Plans to apply into paramedic school and join the Fire Academy to become a paramedic/structure fireman.
