Jose Garcia

Jose Garcia is in his 11th year as a member of the Chico State baseball coaching staff. His efforts have resulted in the Wildcats notching 286 victories since 2013, reaching postseason play seven times, winning two California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles, and the 2014 NCAA West Region crown. Garcia is not only Dave Taylor’s top assistant coach, he also serves as the team’s Recruiting Coordinator.
 
Garcia operates as the Wildcats’ infield coach and oversees the program’s daily field work, while also working closely with Chico State’s hitters, first basemen and outfielders.
 
Garcia’s dedication to creating an ideal campus and community environment reaches far beyond the baseball diamond. In August, 2020, he was named as Chico State’s representative to the CCAA’s 14-member Diversity and Inclusion Committee. 

Garcia joined Dave Taylor’s staff as a student assistant in 2013, helping ’the Cats post a 37-18 record and a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament. He joined the coaching ranks after wrapping up his playing career at College of the Desert in Palm Desert. As a freshman, Garcia was an All-Foothill Conference Honorable Mention and was named the Roadrunners’ 2011 Offensive Player of the Year.

Garcia was a prep standout at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, earning Gatorade Freshman Player of the Year and All-Southwestern League honors.

Garcia earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Chico State with an emphasis in coaching. He earned his master’s degree in education, school and counseling psychology with an emphasis in positive coaching from the University of Missouri in 2017.
