SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Chico State women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at Premier Field.
It is the first time Chico State has recorded three consecutive shutouts since the 2022 season.
The Wildcats generated six first-half shots and finished even with the Coyotes in total attempts, 10-10.
Charlotte Mailer played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves and finished with a shutout. Makayla Quesada shared the Wildcats' shot lead with two attempts and put one on goal. Aiyana Finley also recorded two shots, including one on frame. Baylee Gregerson added two shots and placed one on goal.
The 'Cats generated the first corner in the opening minute, while Charlotte Mailer kept the Coyotes off the board by saving Valerie Garcia's shot in the sixth minute. From the ninth minute to the 14th minute, Chico State built sustained pressure with shots from Gregerson, Yulisa Reyes, Quesada and two from Finley around a corner kick, with Bella Ortiz saving Finley's final attempt. Quesada forced another save in the 27th minute, and after the Wildcats were whistled for four fouls between the 30th minute and the 42nd minute, the Coyotes had late attempts from Graciella Baird and Clarissa Rolon before the half ended scoreless.
The Coyotes created the first chance of the second half, earning a corner in the 47th minute before Sydney Montgomery shot over the top and an offside call halted another attack. The Wildcats answered with two corners in the 52nd and 54th minutes, followed by shots from Hannah Yao and Olivia Hohnstein as the match remained scoreless. The Coyotes pushed back from the 62nd minute through the 68th, but Chico State kept it 0-0 with a team save on Vianca Sanchez, Charlotte Mailer's save on Mila Bettinelli, and another Mailer stop on Reagan Parkhill. Gregerson and Mia Cook each put late shots on frame that Bella Ortiz saved, and the Coyotes generated two more late attempts before the half ended with the match still 0-0.
