Wildcats Unable to Find Runs in CCAA Season Opener Against Otters

SEASIDE, Calif. – Offensive struggles in Seaside resulted in the Wildcats dropping their first doubleheader of the 2026 CCAA season to Cal State Monterey Bay. Both games were decided by four runs, as Chico State also battled defensive miscues throughout Friday's series opener. The Otters were a perfect 5-5 in the NorCal Crossover last weekend in Tracy, picking up wins over similar opponents as the Wildcats.

The Wildcats fall to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play, while the Otters improve to 17-4 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Game 1: Chico State 0, CSUMB 4

Friday's opener featured a strong performance from the Otters' pitching staff, which kept the Wildcats off balance at the plate. Defensively, Chico State struggled to settle in, committing five errors in the contest. Aiyana Curry, Hannah Levy and Annika Isaacson picked up the three hits for the 'Cats in Friday's opener.

Amelie Valdez earned the start in the circle, with Peyton Wells entering in relief to close out the game.

Game 2: Chico State 1, CSUMB 5

The offensive drought continued in the second game of the doubleheader, as the Wildcats managed just two hits. The 'Cats allowed five more errors in the second half of the day but not accounting for any runs from the Otters.

Marissa Anderson accounted for Chico State's lone run of the day, delivering an RBI single up the middle in the fifth inning.

Chico State returns to action Saturday in Seaside, with first pitch of Game Three scheduled for 11 a.m.
