TRACY, Calif. – Chico State softball delivered a perfect Saturday at the 2026 NorCal Crossover, defeating Simon Fraser and Montana State Billings to extend its strong weekend in Tracy. The Wildcats posted a season high in both runs in a single game and total runs in a day, scoring 12 combined on Saturday.
Game 1: Chico 9, Simon Fraser 5
The Wildcats turned in a complete performance to open the day, collecting 10 hits with no errors against the Red Leafs.
Chico State wasted no time getting on the board, plating four runs in the first inning on two hits and batting through the order before the second frame.
Four Wildcats recorded multi-hit games: Kennedy Gustin, Brianna Swihart, Itzell De Los Rios and Italia Abrenica. De Los Rios drove in three runs, while Abrenica added two RBIs in the opener.
After finding themselves tied 5-5 entering the final inning, the 'Cats delivered under pressure. Freshman Mia Brady broke the deadlock with a single to center field, bringing Annika Isaacson home for the go-ahead run. Chico State added three more insurance runs behind timely hits from Swihart and De Los Rios to pull away.
Bella Tavares earned the start and struck out five, while Kylie Loertscher was credited with her first win of the season.
Game 2: Chico 3, Montana State Billings 2 (8 inn.)
Amelie Valdez continued her dominant stretch, earning her fourth win of the season in her fourth complete game. The senior tossed all eight innings and recorded five strikeouts against the Yellowjackets.
The Wildcats tallied seven hits and grabbed an early lead in the second inning. De Los Rios sparked the offense with a double to left field and later scored on a wild pitch to give Chico State a 1-0 advantage.
Ali Lewis added to the momentum in the third inning, becoming the third Wildcat to homer this season with an inside-the-park home run.
Montana State Billings battled back to force extra innings, but the Wildcats responded in the eighth. Annika Isaacson delivered a single down the left-field line to help secure the 3-2 victory.
Chico State will close out the NorCal Crossover on Sunday with a rematch against Western Washington at 11:30 a.m., looking to carry momentum into CCAA play with a winning non-conference record.
