Chico, Calif. – Chico State and Jessup split Saturday's doubleheader at Nettleton Stadium, with the Wildcats pulling out a 3–2 walk-off win in 10 innings in the opener before falling 8–4 in the seven-inning nightcap.
The Wildcats moved to 1–2 on the young season, while Jessup improved to 2–1 in nonconference play.
Wildcat Standouts
Myles Walton – Combined 5-for-7 on the day with three runs scored and a stolen base, reaching base safely in both games.
Roman Roberts – Finished the doubleheader 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and two RBIs, including the game-tying triple in Game 2.
Manny Lopez – Earned the win in Game 1 with a scoreless 10th inning, retiring the side to set up the walk-off.
Game 1 – Chico State 3, Jessup 2 (10 innings)
Chico State rallied late and walked off Jessup in extra innings in the home opener, scoring once in the bottom of the 10th to secure the victory.
After Jessup scored first on a wild pitch in the third inning, the Wildcats answered in the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Baker that brought home Brady Wright. Chico State tied the game in the seventh when Roman Roberts singled to left field, scoring Myles Walton.
The game remained deadlocked until the 10th, when Wright scored the winning run after Keoni Coloma was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Game 2 – Jessup 8, Chico State 4
Jessup used extra-base power and aggressive baserunning to pull away in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring in five of seven innings.
The Wildcats struck first with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning and added two more runs in the third on a triple by Roberts and an RBI groundout by Brady Ranallo.
Jessup responded with a pair of runs in both the second and third innings, then broke the game open late with two runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run triple.
