Wildcats Open Up the Season with a Draw to the Vikings

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State men's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 1-1 draw against Western Washington on Thursday afternoon at University Soccer Stadium. The result moves the Wildcats to 0-1-1 overall, while the Vikings sit at 0-0-1.

How it happened

  • Chico State got off to a dream start when Dane Peterson scored just 21 seconds into the match, giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.

  • Western Washington applied pressure throughout the second half and were rewarded in the 82nd minute, as Jack Haegele headed home the equalizer off a long throw from Diego Lopez.

  • Despite chances for both sides late in the match, neither team could find the winner.
