Second Half Penalty Shuts the Door on 'Cats

ATHERTON, Calif. – A second-half penalty proved the difference as Menlo edged Chico State, 1–0, on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025 at Wunderlich Field. With the road loss, the Wildcats dropped to 2-3-1 overall (0-0-0 CCAA), while the Oaks improved to 5-1-0 (0-0-0 GSAC) .

MC – 82' Giuseppe Sigala (penalty)


How it happened

  • Both teams generated chances in the first half, with Chico State outshooting Menlo 6–5, but neither side found the net.

  • In the 82nd minute, Menlo broke through when Giuseppe Sigala converted from the penalty spot to give the hosts the lead.

  • Chico State pushed forward in the closing minutes but could not find the equalizer, falling 1–0 on the road .
