'Cats Concede Late Against Red Leafs in Home Opener

CHICO, Calif. – Chico State (0-2-1, 0-0-0 CCAA) dropped a tight contest 1–0 against Simon Fraser (2-0-1, 0-0-0 GNAC) on Wednesday afternoon at University Soccer Stadium. Despite a strong defensive performance and nine saves from goalkeeper Claire Schnabel, the Wildcats were unable to overcome a late goal by the Red Leafs.

The Wildcats will be back at University Soccer Stadium this Sunday, September 14th at 11:30 am, hosting the Saints of Saint Martin's, searching for their first win of the season.

How it happened

  • A defensive battle dominated the match, with both teams trading shots but neither able to break through for most of the game.

  • Chico State created pressure with 11 total shots, including 3 on target, but couldn't convert.

  • Simon Fraser capitalized in the 86th minute when Kiera Scott found the back of the net, delivering the game-winner.

  • The Wildcats pushed for an equalizer in the final minutes but couldn't break down the Red Leafs' back line.

  • SFU's Jensa Napier-Ganley was issued a yellow card in the 67th minute.
