LOS ANGELES, Calif. - In a high-scoring, four-hour battle that saw a combined 22 runs and 25 hits, Chico State's postseason push came to an end Friday night with a 14–8 loss to San Francisco State at Reeder Field in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
The loss eliminates the Wildcats from the conference tournament and drops them to 31–22 overall. Chico State will now wait to see if its body of work earns an at-large berth to the NCAA West Regionals. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at NCAA.com.
The Gators (34–20) jumped out to a 6–2 lead after two innings and never trailed, taking advantage of four Chico State errors and several timely extra-base hits. San Francisco State scored in seven of nine innings, including three-run frames in the fifth and seventh to keep the Wildcats at bay.
Chico State put up a strong offensive fight, collecting 12 hits and scoring in six different innings. Troy Kent went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBIs, and a walk to lead the Wildcat offense. His seventh-inning two-run double was nearly a home run, glancing high off the tall wall in right field. Carson Case added two hits, including a run-scoring double, and Phoenix Casias reached base three times, stole two bags, and scored twice. Casias also battled through a highlight-worthy, nine-pitch at-bat earlier in the tournament.
Thade Miller reached base in all four of his plate appearances with a single, walk, and two hit-by-pitches, while Michael Baker and Daniel Vierra each added RBIs.
Despite using seven pitchers, Chico State struggled to contain the Gators' lineup, which tallied four doubles and a home run while drawing six walks. Starter Lucas White took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) in just two-thirds of an inning.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to Selection Sunday, hoping for one more opportunity to continue their 2025 season.
