Women's Golf Posts Strong Finish in Season Finale at Sandpiper

| By:

Santa Barbara, Calif. — The Chico State women's golf team closed out the 2024–25 season with a determined final-round performance Wednesday at the CCAA Championships, posting a 323, their lowest team score of the tournament, to finish sixth overall at Sandpiper Golf Club. Starting from the back nine, the Wildcats showed resilience and pride, led by their trio of seniors playing in their final collegiate rounds.

Ariana Blagrove paced the team with an 8-over-par 80, her best round since February and one of her top three performances of the season. Blagrove played the front nine in just 39 strokes, finishing her Wildcat career with poise and consistency to climb into a tie for 26th individually.

Trinity Hernandez followed with an 81, wrapping up a strong week where she was Chico State's top overall finisher at +28. Though not matching her season-low 71 from the Pioneer Shootout, Hernandez's closing round reflected her reliability—playing the final nine holes in 39 strokes, including a birdie on the par-4 12th.

Brooke Pelletier matched that 81, highlighted by a sparkling 37 on the back nine—her lowest nine-hole score of the tournament. While her final-round number didn't eclipse her season-best 74 from February, it was a confident return to form that placed her 25th overall.

Makenzi Laporte, who joined the golf team this spring after earning All-CCAA First Team honors in basketball, carded an 85 in her final round. She birdied the par-4 12th and played the front nine in a clean 39, showing the competitive spirit that made her a standout in two sports. She finished tied for 29th overall.

Hollyn Drennen delivered her best performance of the tournament on Wednesday, also posting an 85. Though her season-low round remained the 80 she shot at the LA Spring Kickoff, Drennen's steady play—especially her closing stretch of pars—provided a strong finish to her sophomore campaign.

Though the Wildcats didn't land on the podium, their final-round 323 stood as a strong finish to a championship week filled with grit and growth. With three seniors closing out their collegiate careers and the team battling through each round, the performance at Sandpiper reflected a group that continued to compete and evolve through every shot of the season.
