‘Cats Steal One Back from the Pioneers

HAYWARD, Calif. - A bounce-back day for the Wildcats as they steal a win from No.13 CSUEB in Hayward, nearly splitting the weekend with the conference leaders.

The Wildcats extended their record to 20-22 (12-20, CCAA) with a single series left in the season.

Game 3 | Chico 7, CSUEB 1

The Wildcats found their offensive spark in the day's opening game, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Chico State's defense was equally impressive, allowing only a single run from the Pioneers, with Bella Tavares picking up her seventh win.

Tavares retired four with a single walk, with Amelie Valdez stepping in for the sophomore in the sixth inning and securing the win with two strikeouts and a single walk.

Aiyana Curry was dangerous at the plate in game three as she went far over the fences for two home runs in back-to-back plate appearances. Her two blasts over the outfield ran in four runs, complementing her home run in game one of the series that also drove in two runs.

Game 4 | Chico 0, CSUEB 1

In another defense-heavy battle against the Pioneers, the 'Cats could not steal the series split in a 12-inning thriller.

Kylie Loertscher pitched an outstanding 11.1 innings in her eleventh appearance in the circle, retiring four batters and only sacrificing a single walk in 42 at-bats.

Brianna Swihart led the team in hits with two; Kennedy Gustin, Itzell De Los Rios, and Elisa Haas all tally a hit.

The Wildcats will close the season with a home series against the Seawolves next weekend, as they stand four games behind the CCAA.
