Murphy Named D2CCA West Region Player of the Year

| By:
CHICO, Calif. – After being named the 2024-25 CCAA Player of the Year, Jojo Murphy collected another honor, the D2CCA West Region Player of the Year.

Alongside his incredible honor, Murphy also received All-West First Team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

A bounce-back season following a commendable sophomore year, Murphy compiled an incredible stat line on the offensive end of the court, averaging 20.7 points per game and totaling 601 points in 29 games. Murphy led the CCAA in scoring throughout the season, compiling 18 games with twenty or more points.

Murphy scored a season-high 31 points against the Golden Eagles of CSLA on January 25th, starting the contest and not stepping off the court except for the halftime break—a glimpse into his grit and endurance to lead his team on the court to vital wins.

The junior from Oakland played over 1,040 minutes during the season and appeared in all but two games.

The guard shot a career-high 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond three-point range, averaging 2.5 three-point buckets a contest.

His ability to get to the basket with speed and shiftiness allowed his teammates to create scoring opportunities as opponents turned their attention to Murphy's dribbling skills. He tallied 116 assists throughout the season, double his last season total (52).

The Chico State Wildcats made a strong run in the CCAA Championships with a second-place finish at the conference tournament and earning an NCAA West Regional berth at Point Loma Nazarene. Murphy made an outstanding effort in their opening-round game against Central Washington, scoring 28 points in Chico State's overtime loss.
