SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Because darkness halted game three of the four-game CCAA-opening series Saturday, the Chico State and San Francisco State baseball teams resumed the game Sunday as the Gators held on to win 4-0. Shortly after, SF State would take the scheduled game 7-1 to clinch the conference series over Chico State.

The Wildcats suffer their first series loss the season, falling to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.

San Francisco State (7-5, 3-1 CCAA) resumed the halted game with a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning in a contest scheduled for seven. Anthony Alvarez, who took over for the game's starting pitcher Alex Trukki, surrendered a two-out walk to Carson Case in the inning. The Gators further added a run in the sixth inning using a leadoff single, a steal, a groundout followed by another single.

The Wildcats had a rally brewing in the final inning. Korey Likens led off with a single and Lorenzo Mariani was hit by the pitch. Andrew Silva would get two fly balls and one ground play to halt the comeback attempt and secure the 4-0 win over Chico State.

Thade Miller started game four off with a single but was a victim of a double-play ball. Daniel Vierra hit a single but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice play after.

Rocco Borrelli pitched a 1-2-3 first inning but ran into trouble in the second inning which resulted in four Gator runs across.

SF State would collect two more runs in the third and fifth innings via solo home runs. In the seventh inning, the leadoff hitter reached on a walk and stole his way to third base and an RBI single put the Gators ahead 7-0.

Vierra avoided the shutout for Chico State by hitting a two-out solo shot to center field in the eighth.

Chico State was only able to tally five hits. Vierra managed to get two of those knocks in. San Francisco State, meanwhile, recorded 11 hits and four walks.

The Wildcats return home to welcome Cal Poly Pomona to Nettleton Stadium for a four-games series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. The Broncos are coming off an impressive start to the conference schedule by taking 3-of-4 over the defending champions and 15
th-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay at Scolinos Field over the weekend.
