CARSON, Calif. - After the Toros visited Chico, the Wildcats knew they had what it takes to steal a win from them in their second meeting on their court. They did just that, taking the win in Carson 86-79, the 'Cats sixth straight win and a perfect final road trip to SoCal.
With the sixth straight win in conference play, Chico State improves to 21-6 overall (17-3 CCAA) and will further solidify their first-round bye in the CCAA Championships hosted by Cal State San Marcos.
Jojo Murphy went off for 23 points while tossing a solid eight assists, extending his grip on the conference leading scoring average of 20.6 points per game. Isaiah Kerr posted a strong 50-percent shooting night, adding 11 points to the 'Cats winning total.
A game changer was the 'Cats ability to score under the basket with 36 points, while taking care of business on the defensive side, holding the Toros to 26 points.
Max Walters and Cortevious Taylor combined for five of the Wildcats nine long range baskets, giving their team a much-needed presence from beyond the arc. Ned Joyce took care of the ball with six assists and a flawless four-for-four from the free throw line.
The Wildcats will close out the regular season at home, starting with a Thursday matchup against Sonoma State, tip-off against the Seawolves will be at 7:30 p.m. in Art Acker Gym.
