Wildcats Take Second in Competitive Bill Roe Classic

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Going up against a field that featured five of the top 10 women's cross country teams in the NCAA West Region according to the USTFCCCA, No. 2 Chico State nearly beat top-ranked Western Washington in the Vikings' own course at the 50th Annual Bill Roe Classic on Saturday.
 
The Vikings finished with 53 points while the Wildcats scored 56. No. 4 Alaska Fairbanks placed third with 85 points followed by No. 10 Simon Fraser (99 Pts.) and No. 9 Seattle Pacific (112 Pts.).
 
The Molina sisters were once again the top finishers for Chico State. Iresh Molina placed fifth at 20:47.6 with Della Molina behind her at 20:47.6. For team scoring purposes, the twins finished third and fourth, respectively.
 
Trinity Western's Constance Nankivell ended up being the winner of the 6K race at 20:18.3 while Alaska Fairbanks' Kendall Kramer took second and the top scoring result at 20:31.9.
 
Marbella Flores, racing in her second contest in a Chico State uniform, turned in a better time comparing to her debut in Turlock, running at 21:40.2.
 
Two runners also made their Chico State debuts in Bellingham. Kaya Scuba finished 31st at 22:12.5 and Roxana Diaz placed 60th at 23:13.4.
 
The Wildcats will head to Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow for the San Francisco State Invitational on October 11. The race is set to start at 3:30 p.m. Chico State was the winner of last year's meet out of 15 teams.
