6/18/2024 5:06:00 PM

CHICO, Calif. – Seven members of the Chico State cross country and track & field teams have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Brayden McLaughlin and Dylan White were the lone recipients on the men's side while the women's team saw five make the team: Annie Belter, Ava Cavallaro, Jaclyn Denham, Rebecca Graham and Kendra Pearson.

Because of their success in both athletics and academics, the association selected McLaughlin and White as CSC Academic All-America® finalists. They will advance to the national ballot, which will voted by CSC members and announced on July 10.

Having already graduated with honors in an undergrad degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, White is currently pursuing a master's degree in Psychological Sciences. His name has been seen before by CSC members, for he has been named Academic All-District for the third consecutive time and will be seeking his second Academic All-America honor in three years. The Clayton native had quite a senior year with the Wildcats. He was named CCAA Runner of the Year after winning the conference's cross country championship last fall and earned a spot on the All-West Region team. In the spring, he collected his second individual conference championship by winning the 10,000-meter run and took fifth in the 5,000 meters.

McLaughlin, who also finished his undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology and is seeking a Master of Arts in Kinesiology, was the lone male student-athlete to compete in both the NCAA Cross Country and Outdoor Track & Field Championships this year. His cross country accolades began with All-CCAA, followed by finishing fourth in the NCAA West Regionals to earn all-region and then he became an All-American by finishing 27th at the NCAA Championships. On the track, he was named both All-CCAA and All-West Region while making an appearance at the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter event.

Belter, a sophomore studying Anthropology with a minor in Psychology, appeared in nine track & field meets, three in which were part of the heptathlon. She finished sixth in the heptathlon at the CCAA Championships with a personal best score of 3,958 points while earning personal records in the shot put and 200-meter dash.

Cavallaro, who graduated this spring with a degree in Liberal Studies with minors in Creative Writing and Physical Education, appeared in nine meets and repeated as an All-CCAA honoree after second straight podium finishes in both the shot put and the hammer throw.

Denham, a junior out of Ferndale, Washington, is studying Exercise Physiology with a minor in Sport Performance and is current in the Honors General Honors program. She pulled double duty for the Wildcats on both the cross country course and on the track. She earned All-CCAA honors after a 15th-place finish in the conference cross country championships while making appearances in both the NCAA West Regional and National Championships. By the end of the spring semester, Denham ran in eight meets, splitting time between four events. She finished eighth in the 5,000-meter at the CCAA Track & Field Championships.

Graham, who is working on her master's degree in Kinesiology at Chico State, appeared in eight meets throughout the 2024 campaign, competing in the pole vault and javelin throw. During the CCAA Championships, she finished sixth in the pole vault and 12th in the javelin.
