'Cats Split Up and Make Waves in the Bay

Halfway through the season, the Chico State women's track & field team split their forces to compete in The Bay: Stanford Invitational and Mike Finelli Track Classic. The weekend was offering another glimpse at strong DI competition across the West and the growth the 'Cats have seen so far.

Stanford Invitational

Marissa D'Atri opened up her weekend in Stanford, taking fourth place amongst a field of tough DI competitors in the 3000m steeplechase, recording a time of 10:14.31.

A squad composed of Sativa Younge, Jessica James, Kaitlyn Gonzales, and Alexis Hinojosa took part in the 4x100m relay, clocking a combined time 48.65. 

In the 4x400m race, Danielle Bacon, Kaitlyn Gonzales, Natalie Muse, and Jessica James recorded a 3:57.12. 

Ava Cavallaro threw the hammer for a 44.68m mark, taking ninth in the event.

Taking eighth in the javelin throw, Jose Peterson threw for a 40.38m mark against all division I throwers.

Mike Finelli Track Classic

Katie Hawley took 35th in the 1500m at the Mike Finelli, crossing the finish line at 4:41.49 against over 140 competitors.

Taking fifth against a field of 157 runners, Della Molina flew around the track for a time of 16:47.38 in the 5000m. Iresh Molina was just a little behind her sister, clocking a 17:00 flat and finishing in 14th in the congested field of competitors. Both runners earning NCAA DII Provisional Marks in the event, clearing the minimum requirement of 17:03.78. 

Freshman Sienna Bianchi recorded a time of 2:17.67 in the 800m in one of the largest fields of the day, with over 180 runners competing.

Coming in at 11th in the two-mile race, Maleah Wilson clocked a time of 12:15.66.

Highlighting the Bay Area track classic was Chico State's women's distance medley squad that unleashed an incredible performance, taking the top spot in the event and setting a new meet record. Consisting of Della Molina, Iresh Molina, Katie Hawley, and Marissa D'Atri, the distance squad sped through the finish with a time of 11:45.20.

Rounding out the day was Sophie Pelletier and Jennifer Ruiz, who both recorded impressive times in the 10,000m race. Pelletier marked a 37:05.10 while Ruiz a time of 38:07.51.
